What is really going on with Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr., and could he be headed to jail? Jackson, Jr. admits he is not well as he battles bipolar disorder. He is being treated twice a week at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC. He has been seeking medical help for most of the year under a cloud secrecy. Jackson, Jr. is also the target of a federal investigation. He faces indictment. One of the charges include misuse of campaign funds to decorate his home. Jackson, Jr. is married with children, but this past week he was spotted out in the DC area hanging with two different women. He's actually up for reelection this year.
Mike Tyson is ready to tell all in a new book about his life. Tyson's biography, Undisputed Truth, comes out next summer and will detail his life as a heavyweight champ, his marriage to Actress Robin Givens, blowing a $400 million fortune, the ear biting incident with fellow Boxer Evander Holyfield, his time in prison for rape and the death of one of his children. Tyson recently launched his non-profit organization, Mike Tyson Cares, which focuses on at-risk youth.
Famed Songwriter/Producer/Musician Nile Rodgers will speak at Drexel University's Mandell Theater, 33rd and Chestnut, on Wednesday, October 24th at 7pm. It's a free lecture that's open to the public. Rodgers will play parts of some of his hit songs on acoustic guitar. He will also be signing copies of his book Le Freak: An Upside Down Story Of Family, Disco And Destiny. Rodgers has produced and written for Diana Ross (I'm Coming Out; Upside Down), Sister Sledge (We Are Family; He's The Greatest Dancer), David Bowie (Modern Love; Let's Dance) and Madonna (Like A Virgin). Of course, Rodgers is also a founding member of the superstar group Chic (Good Times; Le Freak). When I interviewed him last year, he told me it was Butter, who played Chic's music first in the country right here on WDAS.
Not a good week for Rapper/Reality Star Flavor Flav. He was arrested for assault his Las Vegas home after getting into an altercation with his fiancee and a teenager.
Comedian Katt Williams was jailed and released for a gun violation this week. Sources say he was waving a gun at a nightclub, but Williams says it was all a misunderstanding.
Dr. Conrad Murray is in a bigger cell, but he is still complaining about his living conditions in jail. Murray, 59, says his small jail cell was causing him to develop blood clots in his legs. Murray is serving a four-year sentence after being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for the death of Michael Jackson.
LaToya Jackson is gearing up for the all-star edition of Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice. The all-star edition will feature Omarosa Manigault, Claudia Jordan and Dennis Rodman. LaToya has been under the radar lately. She has avoided a lot of the Jackson family drama, but she is very close to Michael Jackson's kids. The new season of Celebrity Apprentice debuts in March.
Kevin Hart's BET show Real Husbands Of Hollywood debuts in March on BET. The comedy/improv-reality show takeoff features a who’s who of stars including Robin Thicke, Boris Kodjoe, Nick Cannon, Nelly, Duane Martin, Faizon Love, JB Smoove and Anthony Anderson just to name a few. Hart has also signed on for a new movie with Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone where Hart plays a fight promoter bringing two old fighters back into the ring.
Magic Johnson recently announced that in addition to bringing back Soul Train as a variety show, he wants to do a movie based on the life of Soul Train Founder Don Cornelius.
Is Oscar Winner Jennifer Hudson afraid to get married? According to published reports, Hudson keeps postponing her wedding to longtime love David Otunga. Hudson and Otunga have been together for years, and they have a young son. Hudson has been concentrating on her career, and is not ready to settle down. Otunga is growing impatient because he wants them to be man and wife. Hudson will be appearing on the NBC show Smash with Sheryl Lee Ralph later this season.
The Michael Jackson BAD documentary directed by Spike Lee will air on ABC on Thanksgiving night.
The BET network will be unveiling a new gospel reality show starring Karen Clark Sheard.
Beyonce will be the halftime headliner at the Superbowl. The Superbowl takes place in New Orleans February 3rd, 2013 and will air on CBS.

Comedian/Actor Mike Epps has joined the cast of the movie Nina. Epps will play the late Comedian Richard Pryor. Actress Zoe Saldana will play Jazz Great Nina Simone. Filming starts next week.
At the movies it's Tyler Perry in Alex Cross. Perry stars in the detective thriller with Matthew Fox, Carmen Ejogo and Cicely Tyson. Perry is on a roll. He is on the covers of Essence and Men's Health
magazines. In Men's Health, Perry talks about his 30 pound weight loss and how he got buff for this new movie. Also playing, it's Middle Of Nowhere from Writer/Director Ava DuVernay. The film stars
Lorraine Toussaint (Law & Order), Dondre Whitfield (The Cosby Show), Sharon Lawrence (NYPD Blue), and Omari Hardwick (Sparkle, For Colored Girls), and follows a wife's journey of self discovery after
her husband is sentenced to eight years in prison. Middle Of Nowhere is now playing at the Riverview Plaza in town.
Oscar Winner Halle Berry is on the cover of the latest issue of InStyle magazine. A judge is expected to rule this week if she will be able to move to France with her daughter. Berry says is tired of being hounded by paparazzi, so she wants to move to France with her fiance Oliver Martinez.
Denzel Washington latest movie Flight opens in theatres November 2nd. The movie also stars John Goodman and Don Cheadle.
The new season of The Real Housewives Of Atlanta kicks off Sunday, November 4th on Bravo.
Cissy Houston says she'll do what she's gotta do to protect her family. The long suffering mother of the late Whitney Houston is withholding the inheritance money from her granddaughter Bobbi Kris. She feels Bobbi Kris is surrounded by negative influences and will run through the cash. Cissy is also not happy with BeBe Winans. She is mad at him for writing a book about his friendship with Whitney. Cissy is writing her own book about her famous daughter that is coming out in February
of next year. In other Whitney Houston news, get ready for tributes to her this fall. First up, the 18-track tribute album, I Will Always Love You: The Best Of Whitney Houston, comes out November 13th.
The coffee table book, Whitney: Tribute To An Icon, comes out November 27th. The Lifetime network presents their TV special remembering Whitney Houston, which will feature home videos and interviews with mom Cissy Houston, brother Gary, daughter Bobbi Kris and sister-in-law Pat Houston. On October 24th, the Houston's reality show, On Our Own debuts on Lifetime. On November 16th, it’s A Grammy Salute To Whitney Houston with Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Yolanda Adams and CeCe Winans that will air on CBS.
Apollo Live is the Centric network's singing reality show, and it kicks off Saturday, December 1st. Comedian Tony Rock will be hosting and the judges include Gladys Knight, Michael Bivins, and Doug E Fresh. Speaking of The Empress Of Soul, Gladys Knight is also part of the ensemble for one of the two sitcoms being produced by comedian Byron Allen. The sitcom The First Family is about an African American First Family in the White House. Christopher B. Duncan (The Jamie Foxx Show) and
Kellita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show) play the President and First Lady. Also starring are Gladys Knight, Marla Gibbs, Jackee Harry and John Witherspoon. The second Allen-produced show is Mr. Box Office
with Bill Bellamy, Vivica A. Fox, Jon Lovitz and Keshia Knight Pulliam. Bellamy plays an A-List movie star who is sentenced to community service teaching at an underprivileged high school. The First Family and Mr. Box Office both air Sundays beginning at 8pm on PHL17. Vivica A. Fox is also starring on the show Prank My Mom, which airs Tuesday nights at 10pm on Lifetime.
Jamie Foxx returns to the big screen this December in the Quentin Tarantino’s film Django. The movie, about a former slave turned bounty hunter trying to rescue his wife from slavery, also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson and Kerry Washington. Foxx has also signed on for the movie White House Down with Channing Tatum. Foxx will play the President Of The United States, who is taken hostage in the White House. Foxx recently revealed plans to produce and possibly direct a film with fellow Comedian Kevin Hart.
Jill Scott has been added to the cast of David E. Talbert's film Baggage Claim. Paula Patton stars in the movie about a flight attendant who has 30 days and 30,000 miles to find a husband. Derek Luke and Octavia Spencer are also part of the cast.
Cedric The Entertainer will be hosting the Soul Train Awards, which will air on the BET and Centric networks on Sunday, November 25th. New Edition is getting a Lifetime Achievement Award. R Kelly has been nominated for Album Of The Year, and he's also up for the Ashford & Simpson Songwriter Of The Year Award. Other nominees include Usher, Estelle and John Legend.
Come See About Me: The Mary Wilson-Supremes Collection kicks off in January at the African American Museum. The collection will be on display from January 25th until June 22nd, and it features over 30 of the Supremes' most glamorous gowns. The African American Museum is located at 7th
and Arch Streets.
On November 16th, Spike TV is doing a tribute special to Eddie Murphy celebrating his 30-year career. Eddie Murphy: One Night Only will feature his work in film, musical performances and sketch comedy.
TV One's popular UnSung documentary series returns in January for a sixth season. I love this show. Their newest profiles will include The Whispers, Lou Rawls, Eddie Kendricks and Isaac Hayes, just to name a few.
On November 9th, it’s the movie LUV. The film stars Common, Megan Good, Charles Dutton and Dennis Haysbert.
The American Music Awards air November 18th on ABC.
Look for R Kelly and Tamia on Wednesday and Thursday, November 28th and 29th at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby. Kelly says his next CD, Black Panties, is coming out next year. Tamia's new CD is called Beautiful Surprise, which is also the name of her latest hit single.
President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are on the cover of the latest edition of Ebony magazine.
Sunny Anderson is back with a new show on the Food network. Homemade In America airs Saturday Mornings at 9:30am on the Food network.
Will the third time be the charm? The late Donna Summer has been nominated for a third time into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Summer died from lung cancer in May at the age of 63. Other nominees include Public Enemy, NWA, The Marvelettes, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and Heart. The awards ceremony takes place April 8th. Inductees will be announced in December.
Singer Kem is getting ready for the holidays. He has a new CD, What Christmas Means in stores now.
Singer Anita Baker is back. Her CD, Only Forever, is coming out this fall featuring the first single Lately, a cover of the Tyrese song.
Whoopi Goldberg is doing a guest turn on the new ABC show 666 Park Avenue. Goldberg will join regular cast member Vanessa Williams on the supernatural drama in December.
Get ready for Black Girls Rock. This year's honorees include Alicia Keys, Kerry Washington, Susan L. Taylor and Dionne Warwick. The show airs Sunday, November 4th on BET. Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King are returning as hosts. Performers include Brandy and Keyshia Cole.
