We remember Dr. Arlene Ackerman, the former superintendent of the School
District Of Philadelphia. She died at the age of 66 after a brief
battle with pancreatic cancer at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
This picture from 2011 of us at The March Of Dimes' March For Babies
walk was one of many community outreach efforts Dr. Ackerman led the
district into in a new, hands-on approach. Though her tenure was
relatively brief here in Philadelphia, Dr. Ackerman is being hailed
for her five-decade long professional and personal commitment to the
advocacy of educational equality in order for children to have the
right to succeed in both career and life.
