Everyone has a fascinating story and sometimes you just have to be open to hearing about it. I was sitting on the narrow concrete ledge of one of the planters at the Piazza at Schmidts waiting for a friend when a fellow with a racing bike sitting nearby suggested I might be more comfortable where he was perched. Hesitating a little I did come over and yes - the ledge was wider and I was more comfortable. That's when Gary Cardemome started chatting me up. I didn't notice at first but soon realized that Gary's left leg was an electronic prosthetic. He plugs it in every night. And thus began the story of his plans to ride his bike from Philadelphia to Jacksonville, Florida with the support of Challenged Athletes Foundation. Check it out.
